create.

the stuff i design + create is quite diverse. lately, it has been a lot of a graphic design, but i have dabbled in painting, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, hand-sewing and even bookmaking. here is a small sampling of some of my creative work...

Acrylic, Newspaper & Gel Medium, on canvas
I created a series of paintings that incorporate thin strips of newspaper, curled up and set with gel medium. I've never heard of anyone doing this before, and I actually think I might have invented the method!

Paper, Chipboard, Photographs, Ribbon
Instead of putting photos in an album, I made seven little books, to document my most recent trip to Europe; one book for each region I visited.
The books are an accordion fold, with a pocket at each page. Inside, the pages are adorned with sketches and memoirs from my trip, and each pocket holds laminated 2"x6" slivers of my photographs. I love this odd format for the photos because it lends such a quirky and casual feel to the books.

Black & White 35mm Photographs, printed on Kodak Polycontrast III
This is but a detail from a photography series I did of models draped in sheets and rope.

Abbott Thayer's "Seated Angel" (one of my favourite pieces at the Wadsworth Atheneum) was the inspiration for my "sheets & rope" photography series. It might be difficult to see in this photo, but the original painting is alive with beautiful folds of fabric that fall around a cinching golden cord.

Mixed Media - Comic Book
Working with my partner, this was our submittal for an in-house design competition at our Architectural firm. Our design and presentation won 3rd place, and an all-expenses paid trip to Europe!

Marker on Paper
I've tried my hand at graffiti-inspired art. This design was used in a friend's Arts Animation thesis project at NYU.

Hand Knit: Lulu + Kiblet
A gift for my nieces. Two fuzzy friends filled with beans.

Hand Knit: iPod cozy
One of my favourite knitting projects is iPod cozies!
This one is called "Bailing Hay".

Concrete, Wood + Steel Sculpture
A 36" cube with square cut outs. This piece is my response to the concept of "home"; a project when I was a student at University of Hartford (CT).

FYI, I designed the banner and background for this blog. Oh, and here are some other projects I've done . . .

Graphic Design: Theater
I do a bit of freelance graphic work for a local theater group. This is a poster I designed for one of their shows.

Graphic Design: Yoga Studio
I have been doing freelance graphic work for a Bikram Yoga studio for a couple years now. This is an E-Postcard I designed for a winter promo.
